What to pack for the Flying E Ranch
We are delighted you will be joining us for your first Flying ~E~ Ranch visit. We will look forward to meeting and welcoming you into our ranch family. We hope the following information will be helpful and give you an idea of what you will need to pack for your stay.
Arrival and departure times: Please let us know your approximate arrival time. Lunch is served at 12:30 PM and dinner is at 6:30PM. It helps with our meal planning if we know what meal you will be joining us. We will make every effort to have your room available upon your arrival. Check out is 11:00 AM unless other arrangements are pre-arranged with the office.
Dining: All meals feature our good, hearty home-cooked food. Breakfast is made to your order and served in the lodge dining room between 7:30-9:00 AM . Our chow bell rings promptly at 12:30 PM for a buffet lunch on the patio, which overlooks our heated swimming pool and the famous Vulture Peak in the distance. Dinner is served family style at 6:30 PM in the dining room. Please come on time and with an appetite, as food is plentiful. Good food, good company and an excellent serving staff create an intimate, relaxing, and fun-filled evening. We have fresh fruit, candy, and home made cookies in the lodge. Lemonade, ice tea, and water are available in the refrigeration on the east patio for you to help yourself anytime. We also have a Pepsi machine stocked with Pepsi soda products that you may purchase.
Happy Hour (adults only please): It’s so easy to get to know your fellow guests by mingling in our Saloon! Happy hour is from 5:30 to 6:30 PM (just before dinner) and each night we provide hors d’oeuvres as well as mixers and munchies. It’s BYOB, so come prepared, or you can shop in Wickenburg at Safeway and Bashas stores, which carry a nice selection of wine and spirits.
Horseback riding: We offer beginner, intermediate, and advanced 2-hour trail rides daily at 9:30 AM and 2:00 PM, except for Sundays and the Christmas day, when we give the horses a break by saddling up only once a day for a 9:30 AM ride. We have a wide variety of trails on our 20,000 acre ranch and our experienced wranglers are here for your guided rides. All first day-first time riders go on the scenic ride, then you can upgrade to intermediate or advanced riding for a variety of walking, trotting, and loping. Our wranglers have final say, based on your riding abilities and experience. Please don’t be offended when we ask you for your height and weight, it is only so they can select the perfect horse for you. Children ride along with the adults on the trails (we have no separate children’s program) and must be at least 6 years old and able to ride and control their own horse for the 2 hour ride. If they are unable to trail ride, we can arrange for a ride around the corral for the small buck-a-roo. Memories are our priority! Riding lessons are available for the same charge as a trail ride.
Riding and ranch apparel: This is casual jean country and formal dress is not required for dinner. Swim suits are not appropriate for dinner and wet suits are not allowed in the dining room. It is always best to come prepared to layer up or down, as it can be cool in the morning and evening, yet warm to hot in the middle of the day. A long sleeve button down shirt can provide warmth on a cool morning and protect you from the sun on a warm afternoon. A warm jacket is suggested for evenings, as it can get cool after sundown, or sitting on the patio in the evening to gaze at the brilliant star covered skies. The ranch does not provide a laundry facility for our guests, but there are options in Wickenburg.
Riding gear: We require long jeans/denim pants or riding pants (no shorts), riding gloves if you desire, high top boots with a heel (we have cowboy boots in all sizes to lend at no charge), a hat with a rim and stampede strings (we also have hats with strings to lend at no charge). Baseball caps may be worn only if you have a string to attach the cap to the rider. If you prefer a helmet, you will need to bring your own. We do not supply riding helmets.
Helpful hint: Pantyhose, tights, long johns, or bike shorts under your jeans will help prevent chafing while racking up those miles in the saddle, and long socks are best for your feet while wearing boots. Remember we are in the Sunbelt, so bring sunscreen (don’t forget to do the top of your hands!), sun glasses, a scarf or bandanna, and your swimsuit for the heated pool and especially to sit in the hot Jacuzzi after riding. We do not have hair dryers or shampoo in our rooms.
Hiking and bird watching: Want to climb Vulture Peak? You will need hiking boots. A pair of tennis shoes or comfortable walking shoes will be fine for roaming close to the ranch.
Swimming Pool: Remember to bring your swimming suits so you can enjoy a swim in our heated pool, or relax in the attached Jacuzzi. This is a welcomed treat after a day on the trial. Our pool is 15′ x 35′ with a 18000 gallon water volumn, so lots of room to enjoy a swim!
We do have wireless internet available in the saloon and main lodge, or on our front patio, but it is not available in your room. Please bring a lap top computer if you feel you have to conduct some hours of business via the internet. We provide a guest computer in the saloon; however it maintains a very slow connection. It is fine for printing airline boarding passes, but you may prefer your own computer for any personal email or extended communication. Cell phone service is available for some networks. We do not have phones in our rooms, however we offer a guest phone line for collect or phone card calls, with phones in our sunroom or saloon for your private conversation.
We have stores and pharmacies in Wickenburg, just 2 miles away, if you forget to bring anything.
May we suggest you check the internet just before your arrival for our weather reports? Our zip code is 85390. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. 1-888-684-2650.
We look forward to seeing you on our trails.
